With THE CORPSE VANISHES (1942 ), Monogram Pictures might have, possibly, hit its finest hour. The film, which definitely falls within the realm of horror, owes much, if not everything, to the Weird Menace pulp magazines of the time. The movie is, at its very heart, a lurid dime novel come to life, complete with demented henchmen, evil dwarfs and a bevy of wilting Brides collapsing at the altar. Bela Lugosi packs a lot of unrepentant evil into his role of Dr. Lorenz, equally matched by the untamed wickedness of his own bride, played expertly by CAT PEOPLE's Elizabeth Russell. Angelo Rossitto adds to his Lugosi legacy as he is once more is literally kicked to the curb.

BOWERY AT MIDNIGHT (1942) compliments CORPSE perfectly, taking its own cue from even more trashy pulp goodness. Featuring a very good cast that included Tom Neal (DETOUR), Wanda McKay (VOODOO MAN) and David O'Brien (THE DEVIL BAT)... and a cellar full of Zombies!

Now in HD from a 2K Film Transfer. Includes a 6 Minute HD film interview with Lugosi as he returns from England after making VAMPIRE OVER LONDON.
